Did you know that there is a dog friendly Cultural Center and Botanical Garden in NYC? If you love nature and history, Snug Harbor is the perfect dog friendly spot to visit with your pup! Getting There

Snug Harbor is located on Staten Island so you do have to hop on the ferry or drive over but it is well worth the trip for the little escape it brings! We grabbed the ferry from lower Manhattan, which is free and dogs are welcome on the ferry as long as they are in a carrier or muzzled. Then from there, you will have to either hop on a bus, or get an Uber/Lyft to bring you over to Snug Harbor. It is about a 2 mile walk from the ferry and not in the best area, so we recommend the bus or a car.

Once you get to Snug Harbor, there is a lot to explore. Here is everything we explored so you can have the best time! Dogs are allowed everywhere in Snug Harbor except the Chinese Scholars Garden, Heritage Farm, and some of the buildings.

Noble Maritime Collection

When we arrived, we were welcomed into the Noble Maritime Collection Museum which had beautiful maritime art, old houseboat recreation, and men singing sea shanties! The staff there was so friendly and happy to show us around and teach us some of the history of the collection!

Gardens & Eats

After exploring the museum, we walked around the campus and explored the amazing gardens. In the early Summer, a lot of the flowers in the garden are in bloom and it is really gorgeous. This is one of, if not the only, dog-friendly botanical garden in NYC. There is a small cafe called Harbor Eats that has a bunch of snack foods and drinks available for purchase. We stopped there and filled our CleverPup water bowl for Benji too!

Sweets & Relaxation

After wandering around a bit more, we grabbed some ice cream at Egger’s Ice Cream, a little ice cream shop located in one of the old houses on the campus. Benji was allowed inside as we ordered and they gave him a pup cup!

Overall an amazing experience definitely worth checking out and our Cleverpup backpack made the adventure even better by holding all of our things, water bottle, convenient treat pouch, and waste bag dispenser on the side!
